Dr. John Peters, Leading Researcher in Nutrition and Obesity, Joins Team at Health and Wellness Center
Peters Brings Leading-Edge Research- and Technology-based Approach to Improving Health and Preventing and Managing Obesity and Related Diseases
AURORA, COLO. – The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus will soon benefit from the extensive experience and innovative approach of a highly regarded and accomplished new team member, John C. Peters, PhD. In a move announced today, Dr. Peters, leading researcher and strategist in nutrition, obesity, diabetes and related diseases, will join the Anschutz Wellness as Associate Professor and Chief Strategy Officer. At the new Center, set to open its doors in the spring of 2012, Dr. Peters will design and implement ground-breaking nutrition and health research and programming.
The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center is set to become a leader in health promotion and disease prevention throughout Colorado, the nation and the world by taking a research-based, innovative and cross-disciplinary approach to health and wellness.
Prior to joining the Health and Wellness Center, Dr. Peters spent more than 25 years in research and development with the Proctor & Gamble Company, where he conducted and managed research, technology and product development programs in areas including nutrition, obesity, diabetes, metabolism, and most recently, the science of sustainability. Dr. Peters also is involved in a number of public health initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors for the prevention and management of obesity and diabetes.

Hill, Ph.D., the Center’s executive director and professor at the CU School of Medicine. “Dr. Peters will be instrumental in helping us design and offer cutting-edge health programs and technologies to the community, and maximize their ability to effect sustainable healthy change.”
The Anschutz Health and Wellness Center will offer leading-edge facilities, services and programs, including:
- Research labs and equipment for scientific studies on nutrition and wellness;
- A state-of-the-art fitness facility, including classes, running track, aquatics and degreed fitness professionals;
- Classes and lessons on healthy living, including healthy cooking and nutrition workshops;
- Clinical services in weight management and nutrition;
- Disease prevention and wellness programs and education;
- Integrative medicine (such as massage therapy, acupuncture and more);
- A bistro that will serve healthy food, available for eat-in, take-out or delivery; and
- A staff of some of the world’s leading health and wellness experts.

Dr. Peters is CEO of the America on the Move Foundation, President of the Friends of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado, and past President of the International Life Sciences Institute Center for Health Promotion. He sits on the scientific advisory board of the Arkansas Biomedical Sciences Institute and has served on the scientific advisory boards of several other organizations including the University of Anschutz Wellness for Human Nutrition and the Healthy Weight, Healthy Living Task Force of the Cincinnati Health Collaborative. He has also served on the National Academies of Science, Institute of Medicine Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention. Previously, Dr. Peters taught biochemistry and nutrition at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis and his Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, both in Biochemistry.
