Bloggers Gather at AHWC for blogging conference
The Fitness & Health Bloggers Conference going on now through Sunday, June 24, focuses on the goal of promoting healthier lifestyles through peer-to-peer connections created by the blogosphere. Nearly 200 bloggers gathered at the Center for a weekend of informative presentations, interactive breakout sessions and, of course, some Denver hospitality.
The keynote address, delivered by Center Director Dr. James O. Hill, is titled “The Importance of an Evidence-Based Approach to Health and Wellness,” and stresses the importance of basing health and fitness advice on research.
Dr. Hill notes that research is not intended to replace personal experience or anecdotal evidence for bloggers’ content, merely augment those experiences with scientific data. In a survey published by researchers at the Center, 91% of fitness and health bloggers blog about their "life experiences" while only 37% get their information from research or academic websites.
