Loving our February cooking class schedule
Ah, February’s back and AHWC is in love… with our food! Yes, we promote healthy eating and active living. But that doesn’t mean we don’t like an occasional indulgence! And we start the month of love with a couple great cooking classes to help you show your sweetie pies you love them as well as their health!
And continue loving yourself and the people in your life by learning new tips, techniques and recipes to keep your kitchen on a healthy track throughout the remaining winter months.
We base our grocery list for each demo on number of RSVPs received. So please make sure to email your RSVP. This will help ensure we prepare enough samples for everyone attending!
Tue., Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.
Looking to impress that special someone in your life on Valentine’s Day, but don’t want a heavy meal that’ll slow you down? Join Chef Paolo Neville of Bistro Elaia as he demonstrates Seared Tenderloin and Shrimp Salad, a tantalizing surf and turf salad. It’s sure to wow even the most discriminating of taste buds while keeping calories and fat to a minimum. And finish off your special meal with Chocolate Mousse with Dried Cherries. Neither of you need to feel guilty about this day of indulgence; simply dance away the rest of the evening feeling great!
Technique Tuesdays - Stir Fry

Wanna be a “wok” star? Cooking in a wok is a fast and fresh way to prepare vegetables and protein. And it’s a great technique to meet our hectic lifestyles and health-conscious tastes. Vegetables stay crisp and bright while proteins are flavorful, tender and well seared.
You’ll learn a few simple techniques to get that optimal deep, rich wok flavor each and every time. And you’ll taste the evidence in our Stir Fried Brown Rice with Seasonal Vegetables.

Satisfying Snacks - Roasted Chickpeas

While chickpeas make a great snack in a creamy hummus, they are multifaceted and can come to the table as a brightly flavored, spicy, crunchy, and addictive healthy snack. Come see how easy they are to make and how much flavor variety they can handle. You can make a different flavor every day of the month!
Through this demo and by tasting our Roasted Chickpeas with Smoked Paprika, you’ll learn the best roasting method and discuss how to select chickpeas and spices to ensure the best flavor!
Cooking for One
Tue., Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
Do you dread making and planning meals for one? We can help you come up with time efficient and creative meals for one that will make you want to get cooking! We’ll highlight a blend of cooking for one with shopping for freezing and repurposing in mind.
Once you taste our Beef, Barley and Vegetable Stew, you’ll stop denying yourself healthy, fresh cooked meals just because you’ll be dining alone.
How Do I Cook This? Beets Me!

Fresh local vegetables may be hard to come by in the month of February. But root vegetables will do the trick. Join us as we cook up fabulous recipes with an old standard—beets. They come in different hues to excite our taste buds and warm our palate. They’re also easy to roast to delicious, sweet tenderness and have great nutrients.
In class, you’ll learn roasting techniques, the best shopping strategies for beets and great ideas for using their greens. And to top it off, you’ll get to taste Fresh Roasted Beets with Goat Cheese, Walnuts and Sherry Vinaigrette!
